You keep him in perfect peace

whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isa. 26:3–4

Heavenly Father, you haven’t promised us a hassle-free, virus-void, struggle-empty life. But you have promised something that transcends all chaos, tames our fears, and anchors us in hope.

You’ve promised to keep us (hallelujah) … and to keep us in perfect peace, no matter the circumstance. Given the past 7 weeks, we are so grateful. We cannot keep ourselves. There’s no magic pill to take, or fix-it button to push. There’s “just” you (hallelujah, again). Thank you for being a Father who will never forget or abandon your children.

You’ve promised to keep us in “perfect peace.” It’s “perfect” because it’s source is the Prince of Peace, Jesus. All we have to do is mine the riches of the Gospel, and keep in mind the wonders of your love. Fixing our gaze on Jesus is surely a lot healthier and peace-fueling, than fixating about our fears.

For Jesus is the precious “living Stone” (1 Pet. 2:4–8)—the “everlasting Rock,” the Rock of refuge, the Rock of ages. You’re calling us to trust Jesus, like we’d collapse onto a bed. Indeed, (one more hallelujah), it’s not the quality of our trust, but the trustworthiness of Jesus that matters. The pressure is off. The peace is plenteous.

What a Father you are. How great are your mercies, how profound your kindnesses, how more-than-sufficient your grace. What a Savior Jesus is—our perfect righteousness and sovereign King. He will hold us fast, when everything else seems so fragile and uncertain. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ precious and powerful name.
