“Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your unfailing, steadfast love and faithfulness” (Ps.115:1) “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1Cor.10:31).
Heavenly Father, this is the January 21st, 2025 you have made, and we want to rejoice and be glad in it. And we also want to honor you in all that we do. Your unfailing love for us, and your faithfulness to us, are all the motivation that we need. We’re not going to get heavenly “brownie points” for doing well. We already have your full acceptance, unwavering favor, and great delight. What more could we possibly desire?
So, Abba, help us reveal your greatness and grace: In our oldest wounds and newest disappointments. In the providence we love and the jobs that we endure. In wonderful health and in painful diagnoses. In the parenting-regrets we carry and in the friendships that we cherish.
Show us how to honor you in our most complex, draining, triggering situations and stories. Free us to stay kind when we so want to be proven right. If honoring you involves personal sacrifice (and it usually does), let us do so without complaining, pretending, or avenging. Whatever mess we are in, we are more “in Christ” than in anything else. Hallelujah, and thank you.
We want to think to your glory, emote to your glory, speak to your glory, and choose to your glory. Abba, help us react and respond in ways that show we have more confidence in your sovereignty than worries about mere men—more peace in trusting you than a “need” to be in control. So Very Amen.
