“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
Heavenly Father, it’s Sunday morning, here in the North Woods of Land O Lakes, Wisconsin. A refreshing 57-degree-hug envelops me, as I sit next to an open window in the home of dear friends. I love having chilly bumps on a late June morning, created by nature’s kiss and early morning hug.
More so, the gentle wind of your Spirit brings an even deeper feeling of relief, release, and renewal. The timing of this getaway could not have been better. I’ve been tired, a bit emotionally listless, and somewhat in heart-cruise control. So thank you, Father.
Every good gift does come from you. First and foremost, the perfect gift of the Gospel. Our need for salvation so great, and your provision is so over-the-top abundant. If our salvation-need was thought of as a cup of water, you have given us the Niagara Falls of grace. Exceedingly beyond what we need and bodaciously more than we can imagine—that’s what you have given us in Jesus.
But you also direct Walleye to our hooks and onto Weber grills, for the sheer joy of sharing good meals and culinary gladness. And thank you lighting up the face and heart of a 12-year-old grandson, with whom memories are still being made, adventures shared, and heart-deposits of grace are welcomed.
Certainly, some of your greatest heaven-downward deposits of grace come to us wrapped in the form of long-journey friendship. Thank you for friends who welcome us into their home, hearts, unfinished stories, ongoing conversations about the raptures and ruptures of life. We need Jesus the best when we need him together. We love him best when we love him together. My body is chilly, and my heart is warm. Thank you Father, in Jesus’ name.
