Jesus Has Never Been Lonely, He Just Loves Us Perfectly

“You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (Ps.16:11). “I, Jesus, am standing at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Rev.3:20)

Lord Jesus, you’ve never been lonely or bored. You’ve never felt insecure or sad because you were left out. And you certainly don’t need permission to enter any door. As mind-boggling as it is, you truly desire fellowship with us—individually and as whole church families. You enjoy us—you actually delight in us and desire lively communion with us.

Though you could kick down the door, climb in through a window, or come in through the “crawl space”—you knock on the portal of our heart each day. Daily mercies, Gospel-manna, living water, your very self—that’s what you freely give us.

Jesus, how do we get so busy and satisfied with lesser things that we don’t miss you? How do we get so fearful and angry about stuff we don’t even include you? How do we get so sad, happy, or mad with “mere people” relationship with you becomes an afterthought or add-on?

Thank you for constantly pursuing us, Jesus. Though we’d never presume to call you “friend,” you’ve made us your beloved, betrothed bride. A Day is set on the calendar of grace when our present, in-part fellowship with you will be wondrously fulfilled at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb (Rev.19). Thank you for loving us this much.

Jesus, you’re not calling us to make you a priority, or “make you Lord,” or make you anything. Life is 100% about you making us yours—by creation and redemption. Convicted, humbled, and grateful, we welcome you, Jesus. So Very Amen.
