Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:7
Lord Jesus, my theological-buttons got pushed yesterday when the bumper on a car in front of me boldly proclaimed, “Jesus Is My Co-Pilot.” After repenting of my critical spirit, I affirmed then what I reaffirm this morning.
Jesus, you’re not our Co-pilot. You’re the King of kings—”the ruler of the kings of the earth,” and of everything else. The last thing we need in life is a co-pilot. We’re humbled and gladdened to be co-crucified, co-resurrected, and co-heirs of the new earth with you. But we have zero desire to be co-sovereigns with you.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, political infighting persists, and economic fragility remains, it’s heart-centering to know your government and peace are irrepressibly growing.
On this Monday, March 16, 2020, you are ruling the world with your truth and grace. There’s no alarm, consternation or panic in heaven. In the fullness of time you came, and in the fullness of time you will come again. In the meantime, you aren’t passive, but evermore praiseworthy.
As the Lamb of God, the Lord of Lords, and the Lamp of the New Jerusalem, you’re working in all things for your glory and for our good. No one and nothing can derail, deter, or distract you from bringing to completion your good work of redemption and restoration.
As a generous provider, you feed the birds and cloth the fields. As a merciful mathematician, you number our hairs and days. As the perfect Savior, you are using this global virus to bring many to a saving knowledge of yourself.
As the Gospel of your kingdom continues its transforming work in our lives, may it advance through our lives. Supersize our neighbor-love and servanthood, even in a season of “social-distancing.” So very Amen we pray, in your mighty and merciful name.
