When they [the Magi] saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. Matt. 2:10
Lord Jesus, whether they were kings, astrologers, or magicians; or if there were 3, 5, or 7 of them. No matter if they arrived two weeks, two months, or two years after your birth—they remind us why you came into our world.
The Magi came to you because you are the irresistible grace-magnet. It’s not that they were great seekers, Christmas is about you being a great Savior. You came into our world to seek, find, and save the lost. Hallelujah!
And not just a few have been/are being found. Our Father has chosen stars, sand, and dust as the measure of his mercy (Heb.11:2; Gen. 13:16). Come Herod or high water, your every-nation Bride will gather at the wedding feast of the Lamb (Rev. 19:7-10).
By the ordinary means of grace, and the extraordinary orderings of heaven—you are saving a people so numerous they cannot be counted (Rev. 7:9-10). This is the meaning of history, planed in eternity, secured by your finished work on earth.
So, Jesus, we can trust you in a world that feels so random, fragile, and scary. For you are the rulers of the kings of the earth, and everything else. We can trust you with our children, parents, and friends; for you are mightier to save than we are awesome at parenting, friending, and everything else. Hallelujah!
Until you return, free us to be as focused, generous and joyful as the Magi. May we love as you love us, and forgive as you’ve forgiven us. So very Amen, we pray.
