“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” (Ps. 24:1).”The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (Hab.2:14)
Heavenly Father, one of my favorite hymns dropped like a Gospel-bomb into my fitful sleep last night. I think it was routing an opposite message and irritating concerns. “This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought…. Oh, let me never forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong God is the ruler yet.” I’m gonna keep this on repeat-play indefinitely.
Blessed loving Abba, thank you for helping me understand this was, is, and always will be your world—the canvas for the ink of your grace, redemption, and restoration. One Day, this very earth will be filled, covered, saturated with your glory. Not might be, will be.
Though “the wrong seems oft so strong,” you remain unchallenged, undeterred, and absolutely sovereign. Providence, not happenstance, gets the first, middle, and final word. As mere men continue to use your creation like a giant Lego set for building shaky, frail, little towers of Babel, destined to fall… “rest us.”
Father, like the hymn says, “rest us” in heart-thrilling thoughts of who you are, what you are doing in your world, and what you will complete when Jesus returns to finish making all things new. Indeed, Jesus is the “his” in “his-story.” So VERY Hallelujah and Amen.
