In your book were written, every one of them the days that were formed for me …

when as yet there were none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I were to count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. Psalm 139:16–18

Heavenly Father, we are grateful for the perspective-giving peace of King David’s words. Measuring your glory and grace, sovereignty and goodness would be like counting the grains of sand on every beach. You are much more wonderful than we realize—so much worthier of our love, worship, and trust.

It’s a source of humility and peace to know you’ve “formed our days” for us. We live by your providence, not by accidental happenstance or random circumstance. Because of your love for us in Jesus, knowing you are writing our stories doesn’t feel like cosmic fatalism, but Fatherly engagement.

You don’t always give us answers, but you always give us yourself. Because you’ve written our names in the Lamb’s book (Luke 10:20; Rev.13:8), we can trust you with whatever else you’re writing into our stories.

Thankfully, your name is Redeemer, not Re-Doer—the God who turns our mourning into dancing, and clothes us with joy (Psalm 30:11); the Father who gives mercy for our messes, redemption for our suffering, and hope for our future. One Day, your tear-wiping will put all things right, and make all things new. Thank you, Father.

Until then, by your Holy Spirit, continue to reveal to us how wide and long and high and deep the love of Jesus really is—the only love that surpasses knowledge, heals our hearts, and satisfies our longings (Eph. 3:18–19). Free us to trust more and fear less—to love mercy, live justly, and walk humbly with you and one another. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ matchless and merciful name.
