But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. 2 Cor. 2:14-15 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, this is the perfect image to fill our hearts with as we begin November 2020. We are thrilled to be your captives—to live as those conquered by the Gospel, triumphed over by your love, and subjects in your kingdom. And wonder of all wonders, we are married to you, our King.

The “triumphal procession” you are leading is a parade of grace, and its undeterrable destination is the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1-22:6). Hallelujah, what a beloved, secure, family of captives we are—no matter what else is going on in our lives.

Many of us, in this prayer-community, live in a country facing national elections this week. Some live in countries where the threat of insurrection, coups, and persecution are a daily reality, and voting is a never-reality. All of us inhabit a world that groans for your return, and the fullness of your Kingdom (Romans 8:18-26).

Lord Jesus, free us to live as those captivated with your beauty and love, and as captives to the Gospel of your kingdom. Wherever we live, we want to offer a “Christ-like fragrance”—a “sweet perfume,” not a self-absorbed, fearful, unkind smell. So very Amen we pray, in your triumphant and tender name.
