The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.” And the Lord said to me, “They are right in what they have spoken. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.” Deuteronomy 18:15–18
Lord Jesus, of all the promises God made concerning your birth, this is one of the oldest and easiest to forget. You are the greater Moses this passage foretells. From the beginning of time, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets, at many times and in various ways. But finally, and fully, he spoke to us through you, his beloved Son—Creator and heir of all things (Heb. 1:1–3). You are the final Word, the living Word, the loving Word, the incarnate Word of God. We worship and adore you.
Everything we need to know about God and salvation, the world and ourselves; or about the past, present, or future, we have in you. For all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in you, and revealed by you (Col. 1:3). You free us from illusions and delusions, from all guessing and second-guessing. Hallelujah!
And as the Greater Moses, you didn’t come to give more Law, but to fulfill the Law already given; for you are FULL of grace and truth (John 1:14). Great is our joy, Jesus, for, as incarnate wisdom from God, you are our “righteousness, holiness and redemption” (1 Cor. 1:30). You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). To know you is life and to die is gain (Phil. 1:21). A thousand times Yes!
