“Come weak and burdened ones—come to me and I will give you rest”—not a rebuke, formula, pep talk. Matt. 11:28
“I will refresh the weary and replenish the weak” Jeremiah 31:25
Lord Jesus, the Scriptures are a Grand Canyon of grace, the Niagara Falls of mercy, the Swiss Alps of encouragement, the Scottish Highlands of hope. On the last Saturday of August 2025, come, nourish our hearts with the wonders of your love and the riches of the Gospel.
What’s the story behind our weariness and weakness? Where do we start? It can be as simple as we’re not sleeping well. Going 72 hours without REM sleep can bring hallucinations. Why are we sleepless? Some of us party too hard, some have apnea, some are depressed… whatever our story, meet us right there, Jesus, and give us need-shaped grace.
Some of us are weary in waiting for a baby to be born—literally an infant, or metaphorically a dream to be realized. Some of us are in fresh sadness over hard news of friends with “terminal” illness. You have defeated death, Jesus, but death is still so stark, harsh, and intrusive.
Some of us have care-giving exhaustion. Serving loved ones is as honor and a calling, but without replenishment and self-care, we can go to dark places and dark thinking. Help us honor our limits and give us what we truly need.
Some of us are staring unplanned for transitions in the face. Some have kid and grand-kid heaviness—not being able to rest until we know our wee-ones are resting in your love, Jesus. Shepherd them into the safe grace-harbor of your heart, Lord. For all these needs and ALL other needs, we look to you, Jesus. Thank you for your welcome and provision. So Very Amen.
