Another Monday is upon us, and it’s already June! Let’s begin this month as Psalm 116 begins-loving the Lord, in response to his hearing our cry for mercy. That seems like a great recipe for gospel sanity and freedom to me.
I usually have no problem voicing my cry for fast moving traffic, less irritating people, slower coming bills, a quicker recovering economy, better service in a restaurant, less spam in my email, more slack from my wife, fewer weeds among my flowers, more buds per rose bush, no humidity when I jog, lot’s of rain when it’s convenient… do you get the picture. I’ve got a voice and I use it, even if it only reverberates in the chambers of my heart with a whole lot of whining and complaining!
But if June proves to be a month in which I will use my voice a whole lot more to cry out to Jesus for mercy, it means I will complain a whole lot less about other people and circumstances, and I will likely become a far more humble, gentle and kind man. It means I will love the Lord a whole lot more, because Jesus delights, he greatly delights, to answer the cry for mercy.
