“Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Prov. 11:25)

Lord Jesus, it’s wonderful to know you call out to us 24/7, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink” (John 7:37). You are the quintessential Refresher—the ever-flowing fountain of grace, the mercy-oasis in the deserts of life, the welcoming cottage in the dark forests of our world. Thank you. We respond with King David’s words, “My soul finds rest in God alone”—in you alone, Jesus. (Ps. 62:1).

You give refreshment that is richer than relief, for you address our wounds not just our pain. You refresh us—not like a yell-leader cheering us up, but like a healer holding our hearts. You bring the refreshment only a friend of sinners possibly can. Thank you for a forgiveness that anticipates the times we still doubt your love and look to “waterless cisterns” (Jer.2:13). You are so patient with us.

As you refresh us, Jesus, mold us into “refreshers.” Take the fragile clay of humanity and shape us into vessels of your kindness and conduits of your care. Life is too short, and people are too precious for us to treat them otherwise. Everybody is needy, just like us. So Very Amen.
