“Beloved… with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you.” 2 Pet. 3:8-9
Heavenly Father, you’ve never been late for anything. You time things perfectly, and your “dime” generously finances everything you plan. We often ask, “Where were you?” “How long, Oh Lord?” “When will you…?” But in the fullness of time, you sent Jesus to us the first time; and in the fullness of time, you’ll send him again.
We’re unapologetically impatient for that Day, Father. No more death, pain, or mourning; no more goodbyes, or good riddance’s; no more broken hearts or broken anything. When Jesus returns, one phrase we’ll never utter again is “Unanswered prayer”; only, “Our God has done all things well.”
Thankfully, your patience and faithfulness aren’t just connected to Jesus’ 2nd coming, but to everything else as well. You gave Jesus for our sins; certainly, we can trust you for everything else we really need (Romans 8:32).
Grant us grace in our waiting, strength in our weariness, and peace in our restlessness. In the meantime, help us be more attentive to the needs of others. Neighbor-loving is a great antidote to navel-gazing. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ compassionate and grace-full name.
