Resting in the Capital “G” God-ness of Our God

“My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isa. 46:10

Heavenly Father, as odd as it sounds, on this August Saturday, we are grateful for your capital “G” “God-ness.” That is, your absolute sovereignty and all-encompassing reign. You are the entire alphabet of providence—from Alpha to Omega.

You don’t have a history of getting better at being God, for you are eternally perfect. The past holds no regrets or “Oops” for you. The present contains no befuddlement or sweat. The future is pregnant with every good thing you planned for us in Jesus—and for the entire cosmos.

There’s no “field testing,” or “trial and error” with you. You have left nothing to chance, but all things to Christ. This is so encouraging and humbling, with no small measure of mystery thrown in. Thank you for not catering to our whims and whines—while knowing and meeting our true needs before we ask.

In our most Gospel-sane moments, we trust you with everything we have and are, and everything that’s going on in the world. We may never know the actual source of “the virus,” but we know who its Sovereign is.

You are God. The Gospel is true. We are yours. Jesus is coming back. May this “quartet” sing ever more loudly in our hearts. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and tender name.
