I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, ‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations. Psalm 89:1-4 (NIV)

Heavenly Father, beyond his name, I know zero about the author of this psalm, Ethan the Ezrahite. But I sure love his heart, words, and worship. I join him in making music in my heart to you, on this November Sunday. I praise you for the steadfastness of your love, and the rock-steadiness of your faithfulness.

Because the gospel is true, your love isn’t attached to a scorecard or thermometer, or scale or gage. Today, and every day, you relate to us according to Jesus’ resurrection and righteousness. Your smile doesn’t get bigger or smaller in response to what we do. Your delight in us is constant, because of what Jesus has done for us. I believe this; but I want to believe it even more, Father.

Even when you discipline us, it’s never out of irritation or exasperation, but only by the acceptance and affection you have for us in Jesus. Such kindness moves us to repentance like nothing else. Such love compels us to love and serve you, with everything we have and are.

Equally, Father, as Ethan affirms in his Psalm, I praise you for your unchallenged sovereignty and utter trustworthiness. Nothing, and no one, can resist your will, alter your plans, or derail your decrees. King Jesus now sits on an even greater throne than King David.

Our moments and years, joys and sorrows, hurts and happiness, tears and laughs belong to Jesus. This assurance gives a peace and joy that cannot be found anywhere else. That you love us as much as you love Jesus, and that you are working in all things for your glory, and our good, is enough. So very Amen I pray, in Jesus’ trustworthy and worship-worthy name.
