“Take delight in the LORD…” (Psalm 37:4). “In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11). “What has happened to all your joy?” (Gal. 4:15). “I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me and followed me…” (Jer. 2:2). “Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives” (Psalm 90:14)
Lord Jesus, thank you… thank you for being “serious” about us enjoying you—delighting ourselves in you, experiencing our deepest satisfaction in you. I can’t think of a single verse in the Scriptures that calls us to be “fired up” for you, but there are reams of verses encouraging us to love and enjoy you…
Like a young bride with honeymoon passion and devotion (Jer. 2:2). Like deer panting and lapping up the waters of your presence (Ps. 42:1). Like the famished coming to a free banquet of the greatest cuisine (Isa. 55:1-5). Like exiles returning with mouths filled with laughter and songs of joy (Ps. 126:2). Like those in whom you greatly delight, hush with your love, and serenade with the lyrics and music of the Gospel. (Zeph. 3:17).
Jesus, we offer no excuses and don’t blame anyone. We refuse to let vain regrets and the condemning voice of the devil have their say, way, and sway. You aren’t condemning us, but wooing us. So, we gladly, humbly, expectantly say… thank you. We choose to risk delight again. Be our deepest satisfaction, peace, and joy. So Very Amen.
