Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Gal. 6:2
Lord Jesus, what we could never do—fulfill the Law of God, you have done for us. You lived a life of perfect obedience for us, then you died in our place as the Lamb of God, exhausting the judgment we deserved. Hallelujah, what a Savior! Hallelujah, what a salvation! We have been declared righteous in you—with no condemnation for our sin left, and no separation from your love possible.
How then shall we live? We have a “debt of love” (Rom. 13:8) we feel no pressure to settle. Lord Jesus, deepen our compassion sensitivity, quicken our love-instinct, multiply our tears to spend on those who weep.
We especially think, pray, and grieve this morning about women and children in Afghanistan and Haiti. The horrors of war and the trauma of an earthquake are overwhelming. We pray for supernatural intervention. We pray for relief aid from surrounding countries. We pray for borders to open for fleeing refugees. We pray for your return.
Have mercy on us, and forgive us. Hearing these pleas, “Will you pray for the protection of members in my uncle’s house church in Kabul?” “Will you pray for my mom, whose city was just destroyed in Haiti?”, puts into perspective the question, “Which side of the masks debate are you on?”
Lord Jesus, may we love one another as you love us—period, exclamation point, now and forever. So very Amen we pray, in your kind and powerful name.
