“I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good.” Jer. 29:11 (NLT)

Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. Rev. 4:1-2 (NLT)

Heavenly Father, thank you for the constant reminders of how little control we have over anything—over the number of our days, or the quality of our health; over circumstances we don’t like, and people we do love; over the many blessings you give us, and the challenging stories you write for us. Quite fortunately, you are God and we are not.

We don’t need a timeline of when Jesus will return, or a detailed preview of our life in heaven. All we need is to know you are constantly at work in our joys, sorrows, and our waiting; and that your plans for us are good—even when it might not be so obvious.

You gave Jesus to us and for us—the righteous for the unrighteous. Surely, we can trust you for everything else we really need. You promise sufficient grace, not the satisfaction of our agenda; to make us like Jesus, not cozy and comfortable; to never leave us, not always pacify us. Thank you, Father.

Indeed, you promise full redemption, not immediate relief. Just keep giving us an unobstructed, undiminished, 20/20 sighting of you sitting fully, joyfully, and sovereignly on your throne. We want to want what you want, Father. We want to believe all we really need is you and what you wisely choose to give us. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ powerful and loving name.
