No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor. 10:13

“… the fleeting pleasures of sin…” Heb. 11:25

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10

Lord Jesus, we praise you for the daily-ness of your warnings, and the persistence of your woo-ings. Satan intends to steal from us every day through temptation. Some days we feel more vulnerable to his enticements that others.

Thankfully, you give limitless grace, eternal wisdom, and resurrection power. The very fact that we often pause, before choosing wisely, underscores our weakness and vulnerability. It also demonstrates our daily need of the gospel. Like Esau, sometimes a bowl of porridge in hand looks more satisfying than delayed gratification.

Jesus, some of us are quite tempt-able right now. Grab us. Grace us. Hold us. Temptation is calling and is hard to ignore. Whether from weariness in well doing or difficulty in relationships; the ache of longings or the pain of the moment; the quest for new adventure, or memories of old pleasures; a plan to punish those who’ve hurt us, or unguarded moments of carelessness—whatever the motivation, we own our vulnerability to act foolishly.

Thank you for your promise, that with every temptation we face in life—no exceptions, you’ll always provide a way out and grace to endure. Show us what that looks like today. What friends do we need to call to share our weakness and ask for prayer? We truly need each other. So very Amen we pray, in your merciful and mighty name.
