“If you… give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13
Heavenly Father, thankfully I can’t “shake” the longing for a fresh work of your Spirit in our midst. You are the fountain of quintessential generosity—the most big-hearted and open-handed Father imaginable.
By the power that raised Jesus from the dead, free us from under-believing the Gospel, over-stressing about non-eternal matters, other-trusting in things that cannot fill us up or free us up.
Grant us power, with all your children, to know the height, depth, width and breadth of Jesus’ love—the love that surpasses knowledge; the only love that is better than life; the only love that is enough.
May the love of Jesus (and the lovely Jesus) be the most compelling, dazzling, propelling force in our lives. Turn our self-staring thought-life into Trinity-saturated worship. Transform our people-suspicions into bold neighbor-love. Replace our small dreams and planning, with a Kingdom sighting and multiple Gospel adventures.
By the grave-robbing, church-renewing, Christ-exalting power of the Holy Spirit, restore to us the joy of our salvation. Make the occupied grace-throne of heaven our settling and centering reality.
Father, you are working in all things for your glory and our good (Rom. 8:28). You are working all things together after the counsel of your will (Eph. 1:11). You are summing up all things in Christ—things in heaven and on earth (Eph. 1:10). By your Spirit… Light. Us. Up. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
