“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2Cor.13:14)
Eternally wonder-fueling, Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit… you’re not a doctrine to be simplified, or a mystery to be tamed, homogenized and de-mystified. (Or worse, our eternally glorious God reduced to a woefully inadequate analogy. Such as, a 3-leaf clover—one stem with 3 leaves; or an egg—shell, yoke, white( or H2O—ice, water, steam).
LORD, in your kindness you indulge our feeble attempts to make you understandable and acceptable to our meager minds. But life’s not about us making you mentally acceptable to us, but you making us way more than acceptable to you. We are your beloved children, upon whom you lavish your love, in whom you utterly delight in—daughters and sons you call to glorify and enjoy you forever. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
God, you didn’t create us because you were bored or lonely. Because before the world began you have eternally enjoyed glory, delight, and intimacy as our Triune God (Jn.17:5). And you didn’t send Jesus from eternity into our world because you were angry about the mess we made of things. You sent and gave Jesus because you love the world—creation itself, and us as your image bearers (Jn.3:16).
Jesus, by your grace—through your work on our behalf, we have entered, received, and now revel in the incomparable love of God our Father. And Holy Spirit, through your ongoing work in our lives as the Spirit of Sonship (Rm.8:15), our fellowship with Abba, Jesus, and you is deepened, filled with delight, and overflows for the good of our neighbors. With our “minds blown,” our imagination ignited, and our hearts enflamed, our prayer is simple… “take us further up and further in.” So Very Amen.
