“Though you have not seen him (Jesus), you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” (1 Pet. 1:8)
Lord Jesus, though we have only seen you with the eyes of our hearts, we truly “see” you, and are compelled to love you. The resulting joy is unlike any happiness, merriment, and gladness we’ve ever experienced. What we now know to be true—that which dazzles us, buckles our knees, and causes us ours to flutter and fly is that you first loved us. You not only came to us, but you also gave yourself for us on the cross. We are saved. We are redeemed. We are yours. Hallelujah, on Gospel-steroids!
The astonishing thing is—even if we have known you for decades, we are merely babes in the world of your everything. There’s so much more of you Jesus—immeasurably more to discover, marvel at, and savor.
So far, we have merely read the preface to one book in the library of your greatness. We have only seen a few chalets in the Swiss Alps of your beauty. Though it’s deeply satisfying, we are just feasting on the appetizer of what will be an eternal banquet of your goodness. We are only standing ankle deep in the bottomless, shoreless ocean of your grace.
Jesus, in the coming days, months, and years, reveal as much of yourself as we can possibly absorb—as your beloved, pre-glorified Bride. We love you, and are undone by your costly, passionate, immeasurable love for us, Jesus. So Very Amen
