“Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure; they will have no fear.” Psalm 112:6-8

Heavenly Father, I am curious, intrigued—make that, drawn to the heart reflected in this passage. A steadfast heart beating in circumstance-tested body. Experiencing a fearless calm when surrounded by difficult people and real threats. Enjoying a good news heart resting in a bad news world. That is so appealing.

By the truth and power of the Gospel, make my heart more like this, Father. Free me to trust more and fret less—to know your heart even when I cannot see your hand. You’ve made me righteous in Christ, now make me less anxious when I feel helpless and powerless. I don’t want to be oblivious or impervious to the unknown, just more peaceful. Move my strong convictions about your sovereignty downward from my brain to my emotions.

Help me accept bad, unsettling, didn’t-see-that-one-coming news with bent knees, not shrugged shoulders. Being your beloved child isn’t “Que sera, sera” (What will be, will be), but “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done.” Father, you are so kind, generous, and present with us. Thank you. So Very Amen
