“My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God; on behalf of a man he pleads with God as one pleads for a friend.” (Job 16:20-21). “Jesus lives forever to intercede with God on their (our) behalf” (Heb. 7:25). “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning’s too deep for words” (Rom. 8:26).
Heavenly Father, as I meditate on the multiple ways you love and care for your children, few things create a deeper sigh, greater peace, and more awe: The entire Trinity is praying for us—how mind-blowing, heart-gladdening, and worship-fueling.
Nothing can sabotage your sovereignty, warp your will, or divert your decrees for us. And because of the Gospel, we don’t have to gussy up, buck up, or ramp up our spirituality when we come before you. As children with a loving Father, big needs, and deep longings we come to a throne of grace.
Lord Jesus, because you ever live to pray for us, may we ever live to trust and love you. Everything you pray for will certainly come to pass. Your advocacy is our assurance, your intercession is our protection, and your 24/7 care is our pillow, mattress, and rest.
And Holy Spirit, thank you for faithfully praying inside of us—when we don’t know what to pray, or even have little desire to do so. In our confusion, desperation, and unbelief… thank you for healing our prayers as we wing them heavenward. You always pray in step with the Father’s heart (Rm.8:27). We. Are. Loved. So Very Amen.
