God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6

He (Jesus) must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John 3:30

Dear Lord Jesus, I want more of your grace, first and foremost, because I need more of your grace. The accelerating political process in the US has been a mirror for me. I judge judgmental people. I stereotype stereotypers. I’m cynical about cynics. I label labelers. Have mercy on me, Lord.

“God opposes the proud” – there is no Biblical phrase that rattles my bones more. “But gives grace to the humble” – there is no phrase in the Bible that buckles my knees quicker.

Of course, I need and want more of your grace, Jesus. My hair-trigger, inner-attitude of vexation, irritation, and fear are rooted in pride; and the core of pride is unbelief. Have mercy on me, Lord.

Making you known, Jesus, isn’t our job (that’s the Spirit’s work); it’s our joy. Like John the Baptist, we want you to be bigger and greater, as we get smaller and more humble. Keep showing us the ugly of our pride and unbelief, as you reveal more of your beauty and sovereignty to us.

Supporting our “candidate,” is important. Adoring God’s Christ is essential. So very Amen we pray, in your altogether beautiful, humbling, worship-worthy name.
