We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Prov. 16:9
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Prov. 3:5-6
Heavenly Father, some decisions are “no brainers,” and some merely require “sanctified common sense.” But other choices tie us in knots, rob us of sleep, and fuel our second-guessing. Many of us find ourselves afresh in this 3rd category. May your peace rule in our hearts, as we seek to choose wisely (Col. 3:15).
It’s comforting to know that, as our Father, you “determine our steps” and the outcome of our planning. This doesn’t mean we’re to be passive or cavalier in our decision-making; but we can move forward in faith, not fear—trusting you more and vexing less. Free us to do so, Father.
We certainly have every reason to trust you with all our heart, because you loved us with all of your heart when you sent Jesus into the world to be our Savior. Because you gave us Jesus, certainly we can trust you with everything else we really need (Rom. 8:32).
Grant us “straight paths,” as we seek to honor you with decisions in response to C-virus disruption; decisions about employment, finances, and transitions; choices for our children, aging parents, and our healthcare.
Father, thank you for teaching us that life isn’t primarily about making the right decisions, but trusting the right Lord, and that is you. The “right decision” isn’t always pain free, but it will never be grace absent. By faith, we lean upon you as fully as we know how. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ merciful and mighty name.
