Worth, Price Tags, and Supreme Heart Treasure

“Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” (Phil.3:8),

Jesus said to them, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own... A person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” (Luke 12:14,21)

Dear Jesus… what we value is an everchanging story. Beatle, John Lennon’s tooth was bought for $36,867.00. A grilled cheese sandwich which seemed to bear the image of the Virgin Mary, fetched 28 thousand dollars. A pair of Air Jordan 13 basketball shoes, Michael Jordan wore, sold for 2.2 million dollars.

I can shake my head and laugh at these things. But what’s not as laughable is the fickle value system of my own heart. In some seasons of life, what people think and say of me has mattered too much. Other times, what I see in a mirror has seized too much time and preoccupation. Having enough, being enough, having control over pain, not losing control over narratives… these things have no value at an auction, but they can control one’s life, schedule, and destiny.

Thank you Jesus. Really, thank you. In my most sane, free, favorites moments of life, I celebrate with the Apostle Paul. Everything is worthless compared to the infinite value of knowing you, and being known by you. Life isn’t measured by what I own, but by who owns me… and that is you, Jesus. Until the Day you return and glorify me, continue to grow as my singular heart treasure. Thank you for so many other gifts to enjoy in life, but, Jesus, I want to love you above and beyond everything else. So Very Amen.
