I am away writing for a few days. If you read my blog regularly, please pray for me this weekend.

Kindle Deal: Gospel: Recovering the Power that Made Christianity Revolutionary by J. D. Greear. $0.99.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. What Early-20th Century American Presidents Sounded Like. From Benjamin Harrison in 1889 to FDR.

2. Vincent Bacote – The Poison Cup. What is it about the pursuit of ambition that can become poisonous when it meets admiration and recognition?

3. Billboard’s Greatest of All Time “Hot 100 Artists” – This list is based on the analysis of time spent and rank on the Billboard charts. As such, there are a few surprises (like Janet Jackson outranking Michael).

4. Louis Menand – The Life Biz. A well-written review and incisive analysis of books about succeeding in life and business.

5. Is the tide turning now against colleges and universities’ “victimhood culture?” Jon Haidt summarizes an important essay and puts it in context of the protests at Emory University. Meanwhile, Rachel Huebner writes an editorial in the Harvard Crimson about the limits of sensitivity.

6. Mollie Hemingway – 4 Reasons Donald Trump’s Abortion Answer Was a Betrayal of Pro-Lifers. Abysmal week for pro-life politics.

7. Adam Sternbergh in New York – Is “Friends” Still The Most Popular Show on TV? Why so many 20-somethings want to stream a 20-year-old sitcom about a bunch of 20-somethings sitting around in a coffee shop.

And here is the trailer for a documentary film I’m part of that contrasts the biblical gospel with the prosperity gospel.
