Podcast: I was a guest on the Group Answers podcast this week, with Chris Surratt and Brian Daniel, talking about multi-directional leadership, how polarization affects our churches and small groups, and the need for community.
Kindle Deal: Finding Truth: 5 Principles for Unmasking Atheism, Secularism, and Other God Substitutes by Nancy Pearcey. $0.99.
Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Alex Perry – The Last Days of John Allen Chau. Last year, the 26-year-old American missionary was killed by people on an island with no knowledge of Christianity. Alex Perry pieces together the life and death of a young adventurer driven to extremes by unshakable faith.
2. Curtis Woods and Jarvis Williams – Jesus, Deliver Us From This Racist Evil Age. We believe in a Savior who redeems, a Spirit who reconciles, and a gospel that is the antithesis of white supremacy.
3. Hannah LaGrand – A Tidy Mind. Thinking is like chores: never done, but necessary for public (and private) life.
4. Peggy Wehmeyer – If Journalists Would Cover Abortion with Impartiality… “If evangelicals heard their moral angst over abortion clearly articulated in the media, I’m convinced they’d be far less likely to consider journalists their enemies.”
5. Brett McCracken – Woodstock Was a Secular Worship Service. Woodstock was a fundamentally religious event: a worship service for a secular age; a liturgy of liberation where the object of devotion was not God, but freedom.
6. Jon Bloom – Don’t Give Up Praying For Your Children. If our children are doing well spiritually, they are not out of the woods. If they are not doing well, their story is not over.
7. Helena Sorenson – The God Who Asks. Isn’t it fascinating that an omniscient God, the God who knows us inside and out, should be so determined to ask questions?
