Podcast Pick of the Week: This discussion between Andrew Wilson, Derek Rishmawy, and Trevor Laurence on the imprecatory psalms is well worth your time. Great work putting these sentiments into a biblical-theological framework, and recommending how they can and should be incorporated in our liturgy and worship.
Kindle Deal: One of my favorite fictional works from G. K. Chesterton, Manalive, is free on Kindle.
Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Barry Cooper – Beware the god of Open Options. “He kills our relationships, because he tells us it’s better not to become too involved. He kills our service to others because he tells us it might be better to keep our weekends to ourselves. He kills our giving because he tells us these are uncertain financial times and you never know when you might need that money. He kills our joy in Christ because he tells us it’s better not to be thought of as too spiritual.”
2. Jenny Lind Schmitt – An Evil Traffic. In the Netherlands, legal prostitution hasn’t turned out the way advocates predicted, and some are fighting to end it.
3. Chris Martin – Front Porch Paranoia. Even though it’s about half as likely for a property crime to happen to you today than it was in 1993, you’re more likely to fear it today. Why? Because you know more than you ever have.
4. Meghan Cox Gurdon – Rediscovering the Lost Power of Reading Aloud. Anecdotally, I hear of more and more families and couples who are reading out loud to each other.
5. Erika Bachiochi – The Troubling Ideals at the Heart of Abortion Rights. Equality premised on the power to end life is not true equality at all.
6. Geri Scazzero – The Leadership Practice That Could Ruin Your Ministry. We over-function when we do for others what they can—and should—do for themselves. Over-functioners prevent people, including themselves, from growing.
7. Fred Zaspel – Reversing the Gospel: Warfield on Race and Racism. This brief essay surveys Warfield’s arguments within the context of his day.
