Cohort Description

Our post-Christendom context is both confusing and conflicted. For many of our neighbors, Christian faith is a receding memory, but they still want the fruit of Christianity without the root—God himself. For a noisy minority, Christianity is a nightmare that we’ve now woken up from. And then there is a growing number who are looking for meaning, rituals, and community but not from “institutional religion.” Understanding our times can be disorientating.

How do we challenge our neighbors to stop and think about the foundations of their lives and connect it all to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Moreover, in terms of our own discipleship, how do we strengthen our own foundations, so we’re not sinking, being pulled away from Christ? How can we build churches with a cultural of this evangelism?

This interactive course will explore and apply five “magnetic points”: themes emerging from the Bible’s understanding of human beings, that consciously or subconsciously, all people in every culture live out in everyday life. These five themes are both subverted and fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Understanding and applying these themes will give us traction to call non-Christians and Christians alike to stick to Jesus as they attract others to him.

Those who sign up for this cohort will receive free copies of:

Daniel Strange, Plugged In
Daniel Strange, Making Faith Magnetic
The Gospel After Christendom edited by Collin Hansen, Skyler R. Flowers, Ivan Mesa

To learn about the theological foundations, magnetic points framework, and the subversive fulfilment model in culturally specific ways.
Apply this framework contextually in at least three areas: personal evangelism and discipleship, church community and culture, "pre-pre-evangelism": creating civil spaces in the public square to foster community and build bridges into the church.
In summary, the cohort will attempt to fulfill the aims of The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics: close the back door; open the front door; send out the equipped.
Begin to understand how Herman Bavinck and Abraham Kuyper thought about the relationship between the Christian faith and unbelief.
