European Mission: The Schaeffers’ Journey

February 3, 2009 | Jerram Barrs

Jerram Barrs reflects on Francis and Edith Schaeffer’s relocation to Europe, detailing their mission to engage with post-war European intellectuals and establish a Christian community. Their move was driven by a desire to address the spiritual and existential questions of the time, ultimately leading to the founding of the influential L’Abri Fellowship.

Jerram Barrs (MDiv, Covenant Theological Seminary) is the founder and resident scholar of the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute at Covenant Theological Seminary, where he is professor of Christian studies and contemporary culture. He and his wife served on staff with L’Abri Fellowship in England for 18 years. Jerram and his wife, Vicki, have three sons and seven grandchildren.
