Dr Morris, well known to readers of this journal, has distinguished himself not only in evangelical circles but in the wider range of scholarship. Since his retirement, we have benefited from his continuing research and publication. This commentary begins with a brief introduction, arguing, among other things, for the south Galatian hypothesis, appreciating the letter character of Galatians, and noting the contribution of Galatians to Christian thought. Unlike several of his more recent commentaries, which are heavily interactive with the Greek text, Dr Morris here provides his own translation and comments upon that. The result is a usable and serviceable introduction to this important NT book, which has been the hot-bed of much recent scholarly debate. Dr Morris shows awareness of these recent issues, but does not hesitate, while weighing them, to make his own viewpoint clear. I think that, overall, he is right, in his assessment of, for example, the relation between faith and law. This is a welcome summary of the Apostle Paul’s argument in Galatians.
